Covid 19 and the Residents of Deep Sea Slum, Nairobi Kenya. The year 2020 unarguably was one full of challenges caused by the outbreak of the Covid 19 , an illness caused by the novel Corona Virus. The Government was forced to enforce a lockdown, cessation between counties, as well as a 7 pm curfew to curb the spread of the epidemic. It turned the lives of all Kenyans upside down. Some have lost their lives, some got infected with the virus, schools were closed, businesses collapsed, jobs were lost, families were separated, Kenyans got stranded abroad, those with plans to travel overseas were disrupted and so many other changes that were brought about. Now whereas most Kenyans have been able to survive and adopt accordingly the situation, in the Deep Sea slum has been really dire... AFRIKASI KENYA KINDERGARTEN FEEDING PROGRAMME  APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE Afrikasi   Kenya Community Based Organization is a duly registered non-profit organization that specializes in education sponsorship and operates mainly in Deepsea Slum, Highridge area in Nairobi. Afrikasi Kenya CBO runs an ECD (Early Childhood Development) Centre called Afrikasi Kenya Kindergarten that offers quality education to over 70 needy and disadvantaged children from the Deepsea Slum aged 3 – 6 years old. At this Kindergarten we run a feeding program where we provide two meals to the children i.e. porridge and a snack and lunch. The children consume the following food per month. No. Food Item Quantity per day Per week Per month 1. Unga (Maize Flour) 6 kgs of Unga for 2 days 12 kgs 48 kgs 2. Uji (Porridge) 2 kg per day for 5 days 10 kgs 40 kgs 3. Wheat flour 4 kgs for 3 days 12  

DEEP SEA SLUM

THE DEEP SEA SLUM   The Deep Sea slum is located in Highridge, Parklands area. This barely 2 acre piece of land is occupied by over 12,000 residents who are mainly youth or young adults and children. The slum is not commonly known to many Kenyans since it is uniquely sandwiched between very well developed and affluent residential and business locations of Highridge, Westlands, Parklands and Muthaiga. The adult residents mainly supply casual labour force in form of househelps, cooks, guards to these plush neighborhoods. A tin shack that residents here call home is rented for between 1,200kshs to 1,500kshs per month. This is approximately 12 to 15 dollars per month. These congested tin shacks of 10 feet by 10 feet are very close to each other. This makes the Slum prone to fires caused mainly by electrical malfunctions and paraffin stoves. The Deep Sea slums are located in Highridge, Parklands area. It’s over 12,000 residents are mostly children and youth. The slum is not commonly known to many Kenyans since it is uniquely sandwiched between very well developed and affluent residential and business locations of Highridge, Westlands, Parklands and Muthaiga. The adult residents mainly supply casual labour force to these plush neighborhoods.
